ASL/English Interpreting

Our primary activity is the delivery of interpreting services statewide. The most common type of interpreting is between English and ASL (American Sign Language). Such interpreting creates an accessible environment in which Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing and Hearing individuals can communicate with each other. See What is Interpreting? for further information.

We provide interpreting services in a variety of settings, including:

Video Translation

For many Deaf people, reading English text such as routine forms, instructions, and legal/medical documents can be a challenge. Written English is based on spoken English and a person deaf from birth may have never heard it being spoken. While most Deaf people are quite fluent and articulate in their own language, American Sign Language, there may be challenges to reading a spoken language text.

Many companies, agencies, and school systems are seeing the value of having certain routine written texts translated onto video in ASL. Such texts may include typical forms that must be filled out, instructions and directions on how to perform an activity, and documents that must be understood for legal and medical reasons. An ASL video translation of an English text would make such documents accessible to a wide cross-section of Deaf people.

We are pleased to be a part of this emerging service. Please contact us for further information and an estimate of costs.
